Abstract

Pride and Prejudice has always been regarded as one of the most classic love stories in British literature. The protagonist of this masterpiece Elizabeth, her sisters and friend‘s marriages have always been the topic of its critics, audiences and readers. In regard of their marriage there had been many disputes. Some hold the point of view that their marriage helped them to know more about life and made them know how to pursue happy life, while others think that they were trying to keep away from poverty by marriage. This article attempts to keep apart from the sights about marriages and help readers analyze this novel from the perspective of feminism to shed some new light on it. This thesis also tries to reveal the outlook of modern women towards life through analysis of the protagonist of Pride and Prejudice—Elizabeth and her sisters and friends‘ different attitudes in several aspects toward life. The main points of this article are focused on some of the main female characters‘ attitudes towards marriage and marriage life, family and family life, and attitudes towards money and education, and also the positive attitudes towards difficulties .And the most important one is the positive attitude of modern women towards life and their courage when they face difficulties and the challenges of reality.

摘 要

《傲慢与偏见》历来都被认为是英国文学史上经典的爱情小说之一。这部闻名遐迩的小说的主人公伊丽莎白以及其姐妹和朋友的婚姻始终是评论家、观众及读者评论、争议的对象。关于她们的婚姻,人们众说纷纭,争议颇多。有人认为是婚姻让她们更加懂得了生活,并懂得了如何去追求幸福生活;也有人认为她们只是在单纯的追求以婚姻来摆脱自己的困境。这篇论文主要试图撇开大众的婚姻意识说法,从女性主义角度解读《傲慢与偏见》并赋予其新的观点。同时也试图通过对《傲慢与偏见》的主人公伊丽莎白及其姐妹和朋友对待生活的几个不同态度的分析,来揭示现代女性对待生活的态度。本文的出发点主要是文章中的几位具有代表性的女性对待婚姻和婚姻生活,家庭和家庭生活,以及物质和精神生活的态度;和她们面对困难时所表现出来的积极态度以及所表现出来的现代女性对待生活对态度和面对困难时的积极乐观的态度和敢于面对和接受现实的挑战,不怕艰难的勇气。

Introduction

―Pride and Prejudice‖ has always been studied at home and broad. There always have some different analysis of several aspects about women. At home, Chen Yanling and Liu likun have studied the women‘s consciousness in Austen‘s novel. In 2008 Xiong Yanfei in Jiangxi Lantian College has done a detailed analysis about the small theme created in ―Pride and Prejudice‖. Song Wei and Jiang Lian in the Foreign Language College of Yan Shan University have studied the manifestation of female in ―Pride and Prejudice‖. The artist charm of Austen‘s works not only to see broad thing from small thing, but also detailed the ordinary lives and the ordinary people in vivid and dramatic in simple and humorous way. (Chen Yanling、Liu Likun, 2007:107-108) The Well known British writer and critiques T.T.Kemble said that, ―Jane Austen was a comedy artist‖, and he believes that she is the second only to Shakespeare in pure comedy artist. (T.T.Kemble, 1968:120) Thomas Make Lai, the famous British historian, poet and political commentator in nineteenth century, said that: I believe that the readers have found out that ―Pride and Prejudice‖ is the masterpiece of Austen‘s works; I think their assessment is fair. The reason that make a work become famous was not the praises of critics、the study of professors and been used as textbooks in school , but to make all readers get fun and get educated by reading this work. ―In my own mind, Pride and Prejudice was the most satisfactory work in all novels‖. Kemble‘s opinion not only stands for the scholars and experts‘ comments, but also the voice of readers around this world. (Zhu Hong, 1986:105)

This article attempts to find out some women‘s new attitudes towards life from ―Pride and Prejudice‖. At the same time, after analysis of the main female characters‘ attitudes towards life, such as Elizabeth, Jane and Elizabeth‘s best friend Charlotte, finally find out modern women‘s attitudes towards life. 一、英语论文的标题

一篇较长的英语论文(如英语毕业论文)一般都需要标题页,其书写格式如下:第一行标题与打印纸顶端的距离约为打印纸全长的三分之一,与下行(通常为by,居中)的距离则为5cm,第三、第四行分别为作者姓名及日期(均居中)。如果该篇英语论文是学生针对某门课程而写,则在作者姓名与日期之间还需分别打上教师学衔及其姓名(如:Dr./Prof.C.Prager)及本门课程的编号或名称(如:English 734或British Novel)。打印时,如无特殊要求,每一行均需double space,即隔行打印,行距约为0.6cm(论文其他部分行距同此)。

就学生而言,如果英语论文篇幅较短,亦可不做标题页(及提纲页),而将标题页的内容打在正文第一页的左上方。第一行为作者姓名,与打印纸顶端距离约为2.5cm,以下各行依次为教师学衔和姓、课程编号(或名称)及日期;各行左边上下对齐,并留出2.5cm左右的页边空白(下同)。接下来便是论文标题及正文(日期与标题之间及标题与正文第一行之间只需隔行打印,不必留出更多空白)。

二、英语论文提纲

英语论文提纲页包括论题句及提纲本身,其规范格式如下:先在第一行(与打印纸顶端的距离仍为2.5cm左右)的始端打上 Thesis 一词及冒号,空一格后再打论题句,回行时左边须与论题句的第一个字母上下对齐。主要纲目以大写罗马数字标出,次要纲目则依次用大写英文字母、阿拉伯数字和小写英文字母标出。各数字或字母后均为一句点,空出一格后再打该项内容的第一个字母;处于同一等级的纲目,其上下行左边必须对齐。需要注意的是,同等重要的纲目必须是两个以上,即:有Ⅰ应有Ⅱ,有A应有B,以此类推。如果英文论文提纲较长,需两页纸,则第二页须在右上角用小写罗马数字标出页码,即ii(第一页无需标页码)。

三、英语论文正文

有标题页和提纲页的英语论文,其正文第一页的规范格式为:论文标题居中,其位置距打印纸顶端约5cm,距正文第一行约1.5cm。段首字母须缩进五格,即从第六格打起。正文第一页不必标页码(但应计算其页数),自第二页起,必须在每页的右上角(即空出第一行,在其后部)打上论文作者的姓,空一格后再用阿拉伯数字标出页码;阿拉伯数字(或其最后一位)应为该行的最后一个空格。在打印正文时尚需注意标点符号的打印格式,即:句末号(句号、问号及感叹号)后应空两格,其他标点符号后则空一格。

四、英语论文的文中引述

正确引用作品原文或专家、学者的论述是写好英语论文的重要环节;既要注意引述与论文的有机统一,即其逻辑性,又要注意引述格式(即英语论文参考文献)的规范性。引述别人的观点,可以直接引用,也可以间接引用。无论采用何种方式,论文作者必须注明所引文字的作者和出处。目前美国学术界通行的做法是在引文后以圆括弧形式注明引文作者及出处。现针对文中引述的不同情况,将部分规范格式分述如下。

1.若引文不足三行,则可将引文有机地融合在论文中。如:

The divorce of Arnold's personal desire from his inheritance results in “the familiar picture of Victorian man alone in an alien universe”(Roper9).

这里,圆括弧中的Roper为引文作者的姓(不必注出全名);阿拉伯数字为引文出处的页码(不要写成p.9);作者姓与页码之间需空一格,但不需任何标点符号;句号应置于第二个圆括弧后。

2.被引述的文字如果超过三行,则应将引文与论文文字分开,如下例所示:

这里的格式有两点要加以注意。一是引文各行距英语论文的左边第一个字母十个空格,即应从第十一格打起;二是引文不需加引号,末尾的句号应标在最后一个词后。

3.如需在引文中插注,对某些词语加以解释,则要使用方括号(不可用圆括弧)。如:

Dr.Beaman points out that“he has been an important factor in the debate between evolutionary theory and biblical creationism”(9).

值得注意的是,本例中引文作者的姓已出现在引导句中,故圆括弧中只需注明引文出处的页码即可。

4.如果拟引用的文字中有与论文无关的词语需要删除,则需用省略号。如果省略号出现在引文中则用三个点,如出现在引文末,则用四个点,最后一点表示句号,置于第二个圆括弧后(一般说来,应避免在引文开头使用省略号);点与字母之间,或点与点之间都需空一格。如:Mary Shelley hated tyranny and“looked upon the poor as pathetic victims of the social system and upon the rich and highborn...with undisguised scorn and contempt...(Nitchie

43).

5.若引文出自一部多卷书,除注明作者姓和页码外,还需注明卷号。如:

Professor Chen Jia's A History of English Literature aimed to give Chinese readers“a historical survey of English literature from its earliest beginnings down to the 20thcentury”(Chen,1:i).

圆括弧里的1为卷号,小写罗马数字i为页码,说明引文出自第1卷序言(引言、序言、导言等多使用小写的罗马数字标明页码)。此外,书名 A History of English Literature 下划了线;规范的格式是:书名,包括以成书形式出版的作品名(如《失乐园》)均需划线,或用斜体字;其他作品,如诗歌、散文、短篇小说等的标题则以双引号标出,如“To Autumn”及前面出现的“Democratic Vistas”等。

6.如果英语论文中引用了同一作者的两篇或两篇以上的作品,除注明引文作者及页码外,还要注明作品名。如:

Bacon condemned Platoas“an obstacle to science”(Farrington, Philosophy 35).

Farrington points out that Aristotle's father Nicomachus, a physician, probably trained his son in medicine(Aristotle 15).

这两个例子分别引用了Farrington的两部著作,故在各自的圆括弧中分别注出所引用的书名,以免混淆。两部作品名均为缩写形式(如书名太长,在圆括弧中加以注明时均需使用缩写形式),其全名分别为 Founder of Scientific Philosophy 及 The Philosophy of Francis Baconand Aristotle。

7.评析诗歌常需引用原诗句,其引用格式如下例所示。

When Beowulf dives upwards through the water and reaches the surface,“The surging waves, great tracts of water, / were all cleansed...”(1.1620-21).

这里,被引用的诗句以斜线号隔开,斜线号与前后字母及标点符号间均需空一格;圆括弧中小写的1是line的缩写;21不必写成1621。如果引用的诗句超过三行,仍需将引用的诗句与论文文字分开(参见第四项第2点内容)。

五、英语论文的文献目录

论文作者在正文之后必须提供论文中全部引文的详细出版情况,即文献目录页。美国高

校一般称此页为 Works Cited, 其格式须注意下列几点:

1.目录页应与正文分开,另页打印,置于正文之后。

2.目录页应视为英语论文的一页,按论文页码的顺序在其右上角标明论文作者的姓和页码;如果条目较多,不止一页,则第一页不必标出作者姓和页码(但必须计算页数),其余各页仍按顺序标明作者姓和页码。标题Works Cited与打印纸顶端的距离约为2.5cm,与第一条目中第一行的距离仍为0.6cm;各条目之间及各行之间的距离亦为0.6cm,不必留出更多空白。

3.各条目内容顺序分别为作者姓、名、作品名、出版社名称、出版地、出版年份及起止页码等;各条目应严格按各作者姓的首字母顺序排列,但不要给各条目编码,也不必将书条与杂志、期刊等条目分列。

4.各条目第一行需顶格打印,回行时均需缩进五格,以将该条目与其他条目区分开来。现将部分较为特殊的条目分列如下,并略加说明,供读者参考。

英语论文摘要又称文摘,是论文的重要组成部分,它是以提供文献内容梗概为日的,不加评论和补充解释,简明、确切地记述文献重要内容的短文。摘要应具有独立性和自明性,并拥有与文献同等量的主要信息,即不需阅读全文,就可获得重要的信息。摘要通常置于文题之后,文章之首。在论文发表后,论文摘要常被文献检索系统所收集。英语论文摘要一般为200-300单词,并有与英文摘要表达观点一致的中文摘要与之对应。

英语论文分类

英语论文一般分为英语翻译、英语语言文化、英美文学、英语相关四大类

撰写方法

完成毕业论文的撰写可以分两个步骤,即选择课题和研究课题。

首先是选择课题。

选题是论文撰写成败的关键。要选择有科学价值和现实意义的、切实可行的课题。可以说选好课题是毕业论文成功的一半。

第一、要坚持选择有科学价值和现实意义的课题。

科学研究的目的是为了更好地认识世界、改造世界,以推动社会的不断进步和发展。因此,毕业论文的选题,必须紧密结合社会主义物质文明和精神文明建设的需要,以促进科学事业发展和解决现实存在问题作为出发点和落脚点。选题要符合科学研究的正确方向,要具有新颖性,有创新、有理论价值和现实的指导意义或推动作用。

首先,要从现实的弊端中选题,用已掌握的专业知识,去寻找和解决工作实践中急待解决的问题。

其次,要从寻找科学研究的空白处和边缘领域中选题。

最后,要从寻找前人研究的不足处和错误处选题。

第二、要根据自己的能力选择切实可行的课题。

毕业论文的写作应结合自己的特长、兴趣及所具备的客观条件来选题。

其次是研究课题

研究课题一般程序是:搜集资料、研究资料,明确论点和选定材料,最后是执笔撰写、修改定稿。

第一、研究课题的基础工作---搜集资料。

考生可以从查阅图书馆、资料室的资料,做实地调查研究、试验与观察等三个方面来搜集资料。搜集资料越具体、细致越好,最好把想要搜集资料的文献目录、详细计划都列出来。首先,查阅资料时要熟悉、掌握图书分类法,要善于利用书目、索引,要熟练地使用其

他工具书,如年鉴、文摘、表册、数字等。

其次,做实地调查研究,调查研究能获得最真实可靠、最丰富的第一手资料,调查研究时要做到目的明确、对象明确、内容明确。调查的方法有:普遍调查、重点调查、典型调查、抽样调查。调查的方式有:开会、访问、问卷。

第二、研究课题的重点工作---研究资料。

考生要对所搜集到手的资料进行全面浏览,并对不同资料采用不同的阅读方法,如阅读、选读、研读。通读即对全文进行阅读,选读即对有用部分、有用内容进行阅读,研读即对与研究课题有关的内容进行全面、认真、细致、深入、反复的阅读。在研读过程中要积极思考。要以书或论文中的论点、论据、论证方法与研究方法来触发自己的思考,要眼、手、脑并用,发挥想象力,进行新的创造。在研究资料时,还要做好资料的记录。

第三、研究课题的核心工作―――明确论点和选定材料。

在研究资料的基础上,考生提出自己的观点和见解,根据选题,确立基本论点和分论点。提出自己的观点要突出新创见,创新是灵魂,不能只是重复前人或人云亦云。同时,还要防止贪大求全的倾向,生怕不完整,大段地复述已有的知识,那就体现不出自己研究的特色和成果了。根据已确立的基本论点和分论点选定材料,这些材料是自己在对所搜集的资料加以研究的基础上形成的。组织材料要注意掌握科学的思维方法,注意前后材料的逻辑关系和主次关系。

第四、研究课题的关键工作―――执笔撰写。

考生下笔时要对以下两个方面加以注意:拟定提纲和基本格式。

拟定提纲包括题目、基本论点、内容纲要。内容纲要包括大项目即大段段旨、中项目即段旨、小项目即段中材料或小段段旨。拟定提纲有助于安排好全文的逻辑结构,构建论文的基本框架。

基本格式:一般毕业论文由标题、摘要、正文、参考文献等4方面内容构成。标题要求直接、具体、醒目、简明扼要。摘要即摘出论文中的要点放在论文的正文之前,以方便读者阅读,所以要简洁、概括。正文是毕业论文的核心内容,包括绪论、本论、结论三大部分。绪论部分主要说明研究这一课题的理由、意义,要写得简洁。要明确、具体地提出所论述课题,有时要写些历史回顾和现状分析,本人将有哪些补充、纠正或发展,还要简单介绍论证方法。本论部分是论文的主体,即表达作者的研究成果,主要阐述自己的观点及其论据。这部分要以充分有力的材料阐述观点,要准确把握文章内容的层次、大小段落间的内在联系。篇幅较长的论文常用推论式(即由此论点到彼论点逐层展开、步步深入的写法)和分论式(即把从属于基本论点的几个分论点并列起来,一个个分别加以论述)两者结合的方法。结论部分是论文的归结收束部分,要写论证的结果,做到首尾一贯,同时要写对课题研究的展望,提及进一步探讨的问题或可能解决的途径等。参考文献即撰写论文过程中研读的一些文章或资料,要选择主要的列在文后。

第五、研究课题的保障工作―――修改定稿。

通过这一环节,可以看出写作意图是否表达清楚,基本论点和分论点是否准确、明确,材料用得是否恰当、有说服力,材料的安排与论证是否有逻辑效果,大小段落的结构是否完整、衔接自然,句子词语是否正确妥当,文章是否合乎规范。

总之,撰写毕业论文是一种复杂的思维活动,对于缺乏写作经验的自考生来说,确有一定的难度。因此,考生要学习学习再学习,实践实践再实践虚心向指导教师求教。

Love and Violence in Romeo and Juliet

Chapter One: the introduction about the author

William Shakespeare (baptized 26 April 1564; died 23 April 1616) was an English poet and playwright, widely regarded as the greatest writer in the English language and the world?s pre-eminent dramatist. He is often called English?s national poet and the “Brand of Avon”. His surviving works, including some collaboration, consist of about 38 plays, 154sonnets, two long narrative poems, and several other poems. His plays have been translated into every major living language and are performed more often than those of any other playwright. His plays remain highly popular today and are constantly studied, performed and reinterpreted in diverse cultural and political context throughout the world. Shakespeare is one of the founders of realism in world literature. He was a great master of the English language. Shakespeare was a handsome, well-shaped man, very good company, and of very ready and pleasant smooth wit. He was called the “gentle Shakespeare” “gentle will” among his friends. Ben Jonson said: he was (indeed) honest, and of an open and free nature; had an excellent fantasy, brave nations, and gentle expressions.”

Chapter Two: the great love of Romeo and Juliet

Romeo and Juliet fall instantly in love with each other, but their love

is a destined tragedy because of the feud between Capulet and Montague. Great true love gives the hero and the heroine courage to pursue the free love and their happiness. Although Juliet knows Romeo was a Montague, she can not help resisting her love to Romeo.

The power of love is so great that beyond our thinking. Nothing can divide the lovers. Although the society not allowed free loving, with true love, people would never retreat. Just like the hero and the heroin they never stop struggling with the feudal emotion and arranged marriage. They represented the new opinions about love. To some degree they were more individual about their private thinking. If they fell in love with each other they would throw all the prejudice. Even they were not accepted by others or by the wild society; they still followed love and never mind ending their lives. Love is innocent. No matter how hard the reality is, love is always the most powerful thing to make you life significant. Chapter Three: the violence in Romeo and Juliet

Violence exist in Romeo and Juliet with the love, three men were killed: Mercutio, Tybalt, Paris.

Tybalt is a quarrelsome young man. He is a troublemaker who loves fighting. He is very angry when Romeo appears at the Capulet?s ball. He wants to fight him straight away. He is only prevented from doing this by Juliet?s father. More than anyone else, he is the person who keeps the feud between the Montague and the Capulet alive. He was killed by

Romeo, but we are not particularly sorry.

Mercutio is one of the most likeable characters in the play. He is young and lively. And he is always talking and joking. He teases Romeo about being in love with Rosaline. He is also loyal and honorable. When Romeo is insulted by Tybalt, he springs to his den fence. Even as he dies from the wounds inflicted by Tybalt?s sword, he is brave. He pretends that it is only ?a scratch?. His death is one of the saddest parts of the play.
